Hi there, readers! So last time I posted I said I would need to do a part two to cover more about myself than I could reasonably fit in that last post. So, let’s start off with the big things, shall we? Politics. I am a hardcore Democrat. I am a progressive through and through. I believe the wealthiest 1% should be taxed much higher than they are (They pay lower taxes than the rest of us do. Google it.). I believe that global warming is real and should be dealt with immediately. I believe that the LGBT+ community includes not only lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people but also pansexual, asexual, aromantic, nonbinary, and many more identities that I don’t even properly know of or understand (but not Super Straights, those are just bigots) and that those people are entitled to the same rights as any cisgender heterosexual person on the planet. Seriously, just let people get married, have the surgeries they want, and just live their lives in peace. They’re not hurting you, so quit complaining.

I believe that our tax dollars should be siphoned away from the excessive military spending we currently have and focused more towards education and infrastructure. I believe we need an insane amount of police reform to come even close to humane, as in dismantle the entire current system and rebuild it new by the people for the people. I believe in prison reform. I believe in the abolishment of the death penalty. I believe we need major gun regulations akin to what they do in every country that does not have mass shootings every day.

I believe we need to abolish ICE. I believe immigration to the United States should be much easier than it is today, kinda like how it was during the days of Ellis Island. I believe the minimum wage should be raised to at least $15 an hour nationwide and that all jobs should have their wages raised accordingly. Fun fact for everyone out there who doesn’t get this, raising wages won’t inflate prices. Why? Because inflation already happened and we didn’t raise wages to accommodate for them. Remember when burgers cost just 15 cents and we were making $4.43 an hour? That was 1940. Look it up. Heck, I’ll even link sources for you.

https://933flz.iheart.com/featured/brian-fink/content/2018-03-12-mcdonalds-original-menu-only-had-9-items-burger-was-15-cents/#:~:text=McDonald’s%20Original%20Menu%20Only%20Had%209%20Items%2C%20Burger%20Was%2015%20Cents,-By%20%40BrianFink%20Mar&text=Back%20in%201940%2C%20when%20McDonald’s,crazy%20to%20see%20the%20prices!&text=That’s%20it

Note that the burger price is now inflated by over 600% while minimum wage has increased by only about 61%. Burgers went up at ten times the rate that wages did. Why people think wages shouldn’t be raised, I have no idea.

Moving on, I believe that people of color are entitled to respect and safety far more than they have been getting since the dawn of time. I believe that the KKK, Proud Boys, and any other white supremacist and antisemitic group should be labeled domestic terrorists as they rightfully deserve. I believe that rapists should serve life sentences. I believe violent crimes such as rape should not have a statute of limitations allowing for those criminals to get away with such crimes. I believe that religious beliefs should not be taught in schools. I believe the pledge of allegiance should be disbanded immediately. This isn’t Nazi Germany where you blindly pledge allegiance to a symbol without understanding anything. It’s creepy. I believe healthcare should be free like it is in other countries where healthcare is included in the taxes.

There’s so much more that I believe in and I’m not even sure if some of these things count as political views. I believe that gender roles should not be forced onto kids. If a boy wants to play with dolls or a girl wants to play football, let them. I believe that every building on the planet should be required to be handicap accessible. I believe that the world should work to accommodate people with disabilities or those who are neurodivergent. I believe people should be allowed to practice their religion, whether it be Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, etc. in peace. I believe that corporate big wigs caught for tax evasion and fraud should have worse sentences than those arrested for minor, non-violent drug offenses. I believe that Hollywood needs some serious child labor laws to protect the kids in the industry because the oversexualization of minors who are also celebrities is sickening.

I could go on and on about my beliefs as I’m sure many of you can relate but I think I’ve covered the biggest things. Now I want to tell you all a bit about my hopes and dreams, the things I aspire to. Obviously one of my dreams is to be a published writer. But beyond just getting published my dreams include the lofty aspiration of having a TV or movie adaptation of my work made. I know, not likely to happen but a girl can dream. I’d say I have dreams about winning some literary prize or another but I honestly don’t know what literary awards exist, so I don’t particularly aim for any of those. If I win one I’ll be thrilled but I don’t know enough about the awards to dream nor do I care enough about winning awards to look them up. I do hope to one day move to Los Angeles. What can I say? I love cities with public transportation, plenty to do, constant warm weather, and left-leaning views. In the past I wanted to become a screenwriter so moving to LA wasn’t just a dream so much as a to-do. Maybe I’ll still be a screenwriter one day but if not then it’s not the end of the world.

Speaking of the end of the world, let me tell you about my weird phase growing up. This was the phase I was in from middle school into high school where I was really into cryptids and ghosts and aliens and would watch Lost Tapes on Animal Planet, Fact or Faked on Syfy, or Ancient Aliens on the History Channel. Shows like the latter had me semi-convinced at one point that the world really was going to end in 2012. Never been more glad to be proven wrong. But what can I say, this stuff had me hyped on the weird and unbelievable. Look me in the eye and tell me that Lost Tapes didn’t have hyper-realistic productions at one point that any middle schooler wouldn’t have thought they were legit lost tapes. No? Just me? To be fair I was young and struggling with my mental health. It’s not unrealistic for me to have fallen for some of this stuff.

I’m well past that stuff now. I still believe some cryptids could be out there just by virtue of the human race discovering new animals constantly that we didn’t know about, but I’m less likely to believe in the majority of them. I also still have some questions regarding UFOs because the universe is such a vast place that one of those things being an actual alien spacecraft doesn’t seem that far-fetched.

Let’s see, what else can I share about myself with all of you? How about random fun facts? Fact number one: my dreams are few and far between. Fact two: one of my dreams when I was a kid was of me hopping along the rooftops of drowned cars on a bridge in a flood. Fact three: another dream I had years later was of a fire tornado. Fact four: that fire tornado dream came the night before I learned of a forest fire in the news. Fact five: that dream coupled with the news had me reevaluating the drowned car dream and wondering if I had had it around the same time as Hurricane Katrina. Fact six: just because I have moved past my weird phase does not mean that I can’t still speculate about my dreams having possibly been prophetic or psychic in some way.

Fact seven: when I was under the age of 8 (I can’t remember when exactly) my family had a frog pond in the backyard. Fact eight: one day a snake jumped out of the frog pond and almost bit my face off. Fact nine: I ran crying to my parents about the snake that almost bit me and my dad chopped the snake into pieces with a machete. Fact ten: I once stepped on a bee/wasp (I’m not sure which) when I was like 8 or 9. Fact eleven: those last few facts are part of why I hate the outdoors. Fact twelve: I didn’t know DC comics was a thing until after I started watching Young Justice on Cartoon Network, despite having seen shows like The Batman, Static Shock, and Teen Titans in the past. Fact thirteen: I similarly did not know about Marvel comics until like The Avengers movie came out. Fact fourteen: I did not know about TMNT at all until Nickelodeon played either the 2007 TMNT film or the Turtles Forever movie on their channel one day when I was in high school. Fact fifteen: yes, I feel like I missed out on a wealth of pop culture because of these gaps in my knowledge. Fact sixteen: I blame the fact my family didn’t have cable until I was 9 for some of this.

Fact seventeen: I have two younger full-sisters, an older half sister, and two older half-brothers. Fact eighteen: I was not aware of the existence of one of my half-brothers until sometime between 2019-2021 and I still have not and never will meet him. Fact nineteen: I hate Harry Potter with a burning passion and I am not just saying that because JK Rowling is an awful human being. Fact twenty: if I had read Harry Potter before I read Percy Jackson I would almost certainly not be a reader today. Fact twenty-one for those who did not read my “About” page: I did not become a reader until fall semester of 2018. Fact twenty-two: this is running long and so I’m either done with the “Introductions to Megan Danvers” posts or I’ll be making a Part 3 to the intros to me as a person. I don’t know yet, but we’ll see. Thanks for reading! Peace out, readers!
